WVO A.K.A Yellow Grease
« on: January 01, 2009, 05:55:01 pm »
I heat my home with WVO. I designed a nozzel holder for a normal Beckett oil burner that heats the Veggie oil  to 300 deg. F..... WVO at 302 deg. is the same viscosity as #2 oil at room temp. This allows the oil to properly attomize and burn without smoke. The down size is that you can not leave WVO in the nozzel when the boiler is not running, it will turn solid. WVO+heat+air+contact with metal= Solid WVO. I purge with #2 oil for 50 seconds at the end of each burn. All of this is controlled by a 3-way solenoid and a timer. The system is fully automated and all you need to do is set the thermostat. Cost to convert is around $350 in parts. I am using a 30 year old Columbia boiler with a newer Beckett Burner. Final filtering is only 25 Micron. A little water is Ok as long as it stays suspended in the oil. My fuel savings will be about 90 to 95 percent this heating season. Matt, Zip code 19312.

Does the area smell like fried chicken now?
It did when I burned it in my truck. ;D
