I found this site after too many dead links and deleted photo's/vids on the web about waste oil burning stoves.
I have a project started that I'm hoping members here can help with. I have a large quantity of transformer oil (non-PCB) that I want to heat my shop with. I look forward to members help with the design of the burner.

Hello Rob,

Glad you found the site.  It isnt too active out here most of the time, but I am thankfull for thoes who have shared their projects and I think we have a good base of information out here.  Hopefully that helps you along the way.

Since I posted the topic the weather turned south and it was cold for several weeks.
I burned about 20 gallons of old auto oil and other oils I will not mention with outstanding results. The stove takes a good hour or longer to really warm up but once it does it will stay hot for many hours after shut down.
I run my stove at 250 degrees F (body temp) and the stack temp is 180 degrees F.
I recoup the stack heat by use of a ducked fan.
There is no smoke no matter what fuel I burn. Odor is very slight outside. Nothing can be smelled inside of my shop after it is up to temp.
I now have an unlimited source of free oil for my winter heating.

Thanks for the update Rapidrob.  Sounds like you've got things burning good and clean.  Isn’t it great to get free fuel?!   I was just telling my wife how nice it is to see the power bill decline in the summer months.  You must be done with the heating season by now, huh?

If you get a chance sometime and can snap some pictures, I'd love to see what your heater looks like.
