the boiler pipes are buried 4' deep with a foot of sand surrounding them for protection. water supply is connected feed pipe coming in to basement.  once the system is charged there is no place for water loss of any volume, it is closed system.

i do have a solenoid shut off valve with in 3" of the heater block. I do get a residual drip also. i have the burner tipped up at the nozzle end so the unburnt oil runs back down the blast tube  then it drips out the oil supply hole into a catch pan. not the best system but better than the mess it makes in the burn chamber.

How about an update on the 2016/2017 heating season? Thanks Doug!

James

james,
my set up is a blend of a lot of other peoples hard work. the buried 1" is from a shelled corn fed boiler (similar to a wood boiler). supply lines are on top with the expansion tank and air bleeder valve, supply on lower side. I have 2 more air bleeder in the basement where the line has high spots and one bleeder in the shop at the heat exchanger. sorry I don't have any more pictures of the set up.
one thing I would do different would be to raise the boiler higher off the floor at least 8" or more. that would make it easier to clean.

that's good to know about the riello and ckburner. hope ya find something soon. with the access to the amount of oil you can get it's too bad your not heating with it now. it's a great way to heat.

the last one is really overkill. it's a great price. if your planning on using a ckburners heating block I would contact them and ask them about a riello burner.

i'm north of williams county

one of the reasons i bought my boiler was the efficiency.  when mine showed up on c/l a 400 plus mile trip there was a no brainer. super, your second choice maybe what you find available. super, if your west of Toledo we're not to far from each other.

Waste Vegetable Oil / Re: retention head for wvo
« on: July 13, 2016, 09:38:27 pm »
I made mine from an old stainless steel microwave. Cut a 2 inch strip long enough to wrap around the blast tube and tack welded it to gather to make a collar. To make the deflector I cut a 4 inch diameter piece. Cut a hole in the center of it to clear the nozzle. Then made cuts from the out side diameter toward the center. Then tack welded the deflector to the collar. I could slide the s/s retention head in and out on the blast tube. When it was were I wanted it I drilled a hole through the collar and blast tube to secure with a screw

is there an advantage to having the burner inside the stove?
when I first started looking at waste oil heaters I thought about building an ozzirt type heater.
i hope your build encourages other to show there builds and share there ideas.
