Waste Vegetable Oil / Heated oil line
« on: September 07, 2020, 04:39:24 am »
Hey guys! Can someone point me in some directions? I want some advice here. I use veggie oil that doesn't flow at the room temperature. how do you use it? How do you preheat it? I'm thinking to use some defrosting wire to heat the pipe so that the pump will deliver oil to the burner. Any advice or links will be appreciated! I need to heat the line because of the oil that stays there between the burning time...

So as I understand the flame has 18' from door to bottom? Have you tried a smaller nozzle? Like -5 or even smaller? Can you see the flame? Does is touch the bottom.wall?

So it is true you can make the flame short by adjusting the fuel pressure? Can I make it less than 10 inch and still burning good without smoke?

Doug are you pump feeding the nozzle or constant level tank?

Hello Friends!
I'm writing here to discuss and asking about converting a burner for waste oil.
I have tried in years that passed to burn oil, also did modified 2 burners. Now I'm living in far east Europe, and parts for burning oil are very hard to obtain. Still I have tried the constant level burner, but now I have obtained a CleanBurn nozzle holder so I want to upgrade to metering pump fuel sistem.
I have few parts, like the metering pump done, but like you can see in the picture, I have a really small burner, about 1Liter/hour. You can see in the pictures that the blast tube is really small. The dimensions you can read on measuring scale are in mm. In the past, with the constant level tank I have tried with a 0.7 nozzle but not very satisfied. Now I want to try with 0.2 and 0.5 nozzle.
The reason is that I have a very small furnace, with only about 11-inches from door to botton. THis is the space for flame.
I made some test this sommer and I saw that I can adjust the lenght of the flame by adjusting the oil flow. NOT adjusting air! I am sure here are people that knows what I am talking about!
So here is my parts for the burner that I could find here (2 retentions head, blast tube and nozzle with nozzle holder.)
The main thing about this burner is that the blast tube is short and I like that because I can start with the flame right near the door, not loosing space for rest of the blast tube.
So the blast tube is about 2.2-2,95 inches in diameter (inside).
The retentions head that I have should work in this combination, are very close to the blast tube that I have.
The big MAIN question is what do you think, did somebody tried that with such a blast tube? Should I shortened the tube to be about 2,9 diameter or leave it like now, the final cone where the flame is out is only 2,2 inches?
Can someone explain me what should be the final relations in mm/ inch of the nozzle blast tube and retention head? This will help me designing and putting everything toghether. Any help would be appreciate. Please help me with any ideas you have and advices

Also doug said în his topic that finally ordered one. It's true little money not the best results. So it may end in having to buy one. Like I said from where I live now the shipping is around 250$ for a retention head with dhl. For me is now impossible. I have tried to make one similar to Kagi retention head. No great results. Did not know the diameter of the hole for the nozzle And electrodes And the angle of the pales. Is seems like the hole have to Be around one inch in center And the pales should be at the angle of 45°. Not great results. With a retention head bought online there are people that cleaned the furnace twice a season. My retention head had to Be cleaned at least once a week. I know when I have to clean mine after looking at the smoke. The best that looks ok for me is the one made by inov8. It seems like I can make a similar one but I have a lot of unknown dimensions. I do not know it it îs legal to share them here for copyright reasons.

Metering Pumps / Re: new waste oil burner

În your case when you have the corect rpms the switch level on your constant level will not give any command. And the metering pump will work all the time... Smart...

Metering Pumps / Re: new waste oil burner

The pump that I have has spring with a screw that can be turned right or left increasing or decreasing the pressure. În that way you can tune the pressure output. It only opens after the pump has reached some rpm's but actually it only opens when the oil has the pressure you want. But the pressure it's way too much  to use it aș a metering pump. The pump has an input, an output And the return line. To make a metering pump you need to make from 2 way pump a 1 way pump. Only 1 input And output. There are some info on net how to convert a suntec pump.
There is also a solenoid valve after that spring that în my opinion îs kind of safety switch. The burner starts, the pump got some rpm , makes the pressure ready for fire and than the burner starts with flooding the furnace with oil trough that solenoid valve.
Still wabdering if with a metering pump still need a solenoid valve. I think it should. There are voices that have tried and said there will be impossible to use a metering pump under 300 000 btu. În my opinion if the pump still turns at variabile speed it should work. Depends of the rpms of the pump it will deliver the amount of oil you need.

Metering Pumps / new waste oil burner
« on: March 30, 2016, 01:10:47 am »
Hello. From some years I'm burning WVO with a modified burner with delavan siphon nozzle And preheater constant level tank. About last year I wasted to concert the burner with a metering pump. Now I've got a Cleanburn nozzle Holder And want to try it. It's kind of hard to explain here becayluse now I live in Europe and the burner that I'm using it made here. With all the trying I run now 0.2-0.3 delavan siphon nozzle. I understand that I have to make a pump from burner pump but at lower speed. My burner has a eckerle pump. Seems to Be similar with suntec. After years of burning oil it seems that the I need around 80.000-100.000 btu. There are people that are using the metering pump And they say it will not work with such a low nozzle. The best should be 0.5 or -5 nozzle. What I want îs keep the flame at 8 inch long at maximum or maybe smaller. I understand that you need a flow regulator on oil And ait line also. That might be a problem due to veggie oil that will become solid between cicles of burning.
So what would be the advice în oil oine? Must there be a electric valve on oil? Also a flow regulator? Or can I make this just from metering pump? Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!
