Waste Motor Oil / Re: Here is a Drawing of my Drip Burner Idea
« on: February 24, 2012, 12:45:59 am »
To your drip tube question. My stove has the drip tube ending 2" from the end of the air intake tube. This keeps it away from the heat of the flame and in the cooler air stream of the intake. If the tube is allowed to get too hot, the oil can turn to, what's the technical term,... crud ?, and can block the end of the drip tube.
Hope this helps,
rj

They also have the easiest ordering system, and without a doubt the fastest shipping of any online company I have ever used.
I contacted them by phone one time and was told UPS is at their facility every hour, 24 hours a day. Believe me, if they don't have, you don't need it,[almost]

Drip System / New Guy / Switch to Waste Motor Oil Topic
« on: October 21, 2011, 08:51:51 am »
Good Morining,
I'm new here but I notice there are very few posts in the "Drip" section, and the majority of discussion takes place under the topic of "Waste Motor Oil".
I know forums tend to have their own protocol, and I don't want to rock the boat but should I just post in the waste oil section? Seems the discussion there covers all different delivery systems.

That aside, I notice with coverting a fuel oil burner, the combustion air is generly preheated.
Is this necessary with a forced air drip system?
I was going to use outside air for combustion to avoid having  heated air from the room, going up the exhaust stack.
Is this a bad idea?
thanks,

Drip System / Placement of Drip Valve
« on: October 21, 2011, 12:30:35 am »
Hi all
I'm building Bruce Woodfords modification of the MEN drip waste oil heater. I like the ease with which it appears the burner assembly can be cleaned.

I can only find a few photos and the drawn diagram of his air pipe and drip tube sizing. Does anyone know where add'l information can be found on his burner?

Also, I have a needle valve with a sight glass, [from McMaster-Carr] and was wondering if it would work better to have the metering valve before the oil is preheated or after.

My tank will be outside with a 3/4" pipe running into the bldg.  It "seems" the metering would be more consistant if it were after preheating as [after start up] the viscosity of the oil would be more constant and less affected by the [hopefully] rising temp.inside the building.

Thanks,
rob jones
