Title: Lighting Oil
Post by: mjohnson2981 on February 06, 2012, 08:58:18 am
Hello,

I have modified a Becket AFG to run on waste oil.

Here is what I have done:

* Changed nozzle from the rated .85 to .55 same pattern & angel (70* Solid)
* Added PID, thermocouple, and cartridge heater clampled around J-tube inside barrel
* Filter oil through a 10 Micron hydraulic oil filter and throught a RF-1 filter
* Turned pump pressure up to 135psi
* Operate PID at about 350*F

What I have found:
The unit lights and runs fine but I plug nozzles like crazy. I understand that  I should run the temperature around 170*F. This is fine, however I cannot get the unit to light at 170*F.

Is there a differnt adjustment other than factory for the electrodes or another trick?

Any help is appreciated.

You can turn up your heat to get it lit, but then turn the temp down.  Unfortunately this is a downside to a pressure type system.

I have also found that larger nozzles are easier to get started, but may put out too much heat.  Dont melt your furnace down!
