starting with my Rifeng 8 Zone Manifold
(http://i43.tinypic.com/k3t7xe.jpg)
And Thermal Actuators Im planning for a fully Automated system with Individual Room zoning and Temp Control
I will have After Pics Posted Soon then its onto the good stuff which should be here Fri The Burner Conversion to Waste oil Tap so far $540.00 Bucks (fittings get pricey)

MSCHINDLER,
Looks like a great project. Looking forward to learning and watching your progess.
As far as the money, once you start heating with waste oil you'll get a fast return on your investment.

Yes, looking good. I am in the middle of my boiler project as well, and yes, all of the parts add up in a hurry. I didnt really anticipate needing all of the different things, expansion tank, air eliminators, pex crimper, etc... although as Doug said, the ROI will hopefully happen rather quickly with free, or nearly free fuel!
Good job and keep us updated.

OK heres another pic of the current Status

Got the manifold mounted still have some unistrut to mount (thank you Maint at work for being SO!!! Waste!! FUL!!!) so i snag the unistrut out of our scrap bin.... there loss my gain. I started routing the pex trying to make it neat and organize found Plastic Conduit to work well for guiding it to where I want it
I have more PIcs tonight after this is all done Nice coat of paint will be next Waste oil parts will be here tommarow so friday i will start on the burner conversion

Just wondering Has anyone try using Hot water from there Boiler with a heat Exchanger (Tube and Shell Style) To Preheat there Waste Oil??? Im thinking of Trying it as I have about a 8 Ft run from Tank to Furnace and Believe I could get it to 160- 180 with a Tube Shell Heat Exchanger then you a Back up Element for Cold Starts
Feed back or Ideas Welcome this boiler is Also used for DHW so it runs year around

Check out Kyle's system.

well got the Oil Burner converted .... and having problems getting the oil to ignite gonna try agian here in 30 mins i raised the preheated oil up around 120 - 130 see what happens
-
I have a little tweaking to do Seem my Nozzles off Center (flame is off to the right of the burn chamber ) it burns fine with Diesel Mix, i no a few other people had problems on here with Getting the settings right so im gonna tweak it a little more before I Purchase anything else
Well Good night its 1 Am here Im giving up for the night
.................................................
I ended up staying up OK I got it to run 100% Waste oil at 205 Deg Nozzle Temp but It burns really Dirty Black smoke ..... Someone get me some help on why its smoky I try giving it a little more Air and it starts to Sputter Also im running at 105 PSI on my Pump
-
I don't have any experience with pressure systems. With my siphon system if it starts to smoke black there's to much combustion air. Sounds like your going in the right direction. Hopefully Russ will jump in he's ran a pressure system.

well I think im understand why people like Siphon System more seem to be Trouble free if this doesnt work ... I have a CKBurner Kit sitting in a box rdy all I got to do is install it ....... (I bought it as a Back up Plan LMAO)
when all else fails Plan B
-
What's your next step on the pressure system?

Exactly the reason I am working on switching to a siphon system as we speak. The pressure system is tricky to get going. I always have to adjust the temp up, air down, and pressure up when I light the system. I have found that larger nozzles seem to light easier, although they put out too much heat. Things start to glow red that really shouldn't! Once the system is started, then its no problem keeping it going with lower pressure and lower oil temp.
If you have a siphon block on hand, I would recommend switching to that if you want a reliable, easy to start system.
-
Thank You Russ and everyone else I have already started switching to the siphon System ... and im not turning back almost complete now
-
having problems cant get it to fire 170 F Preheat tryed messing with Air Adjustment and still no fire im lost ... i keept messing with adjustment see what i can get My Air PSI is 10 went from 5 to 15 and stii cant get to fire............ at 170 Preheat tryed running diesel to Engine Oil .... My Nozzle and igniters are FLush with Retention Head im using a CK Burner Kit there not arking out with Retention head
-
Try bumping up your preheat temp to 180*. Keep your air pressure under 8lbs. This site will show you how to adjust your electrodes http://www.beckettcorp.com/protect/techsuppt/product-manuals/6104BAF%20R0803.pdf.
This is from ckburner troubleshooting page.
"Burner starts but does not light"
Poor retention head position.
Clogged nozzle.
Poor electrode adjustment.
Improper combustion air adjustment.
Insufficient pre-heat temperature.
Poor combustion chamber – try adding a liner.
No atomizing air.
Spark shorting to ground or the nozzle, retention head, etc.
Too high of a pre-heat temperature.
"Failed start"
Electrodes shorted and no spark.
Clogged nozzle.
Gummed up nozzle affecting spray pattern.
No air pressure
Insufficient preheat.
Too much preheat.

Did you get it working?
-
Doug Thank you For you help well after 2 days of Scratching my head.....I did not get it to work Until Just 5 mins ago.... I thought i was getting enough fuel but i must not off been. Had a itching tellin me to hook the pump up to the fuel feed on the siphon nozzle and away She went .... i need to figure out why the siphon nozzle isnt lifting enough fuel im only 6" below nozzles centerline with 3/8 Line well I mess with it some more Thanks Guys
-
I ran my constant level tank an inch below the nozzle c/l.
-
i try that Doug I get back to you tonight or tommarow .... lol Im making this all to Hard, hope somebody learns from my mistake... what a waste of 2 days
Oh well somone has to be the dummy around here HEHE
-
Glade to hear it's running. We all had to learn. Every system is a little differrent. The more you burn the more you learn.
-
ok So a little recap I change to a siphon system.... Got it to run and burn for 1 day .... started having problems with not enough fuel being delievered to the combustion chamber so i changed my constant lvl a inch from center line work and acted up again ok ok so at this point I go help from doug and no Luck so i started to tear it down and come to find out this whole time it was a clogged nozzle ... well I cleaned it out and my CK Burner Block and all my Lines.. no its working great HAHA i got a back up nozzle on order just in case this one acts up again im just gonna replace it
SO i update you guys im on Settings it might help someone else right now im running at 5 Psi Air pressure and 2 " C/L
Thanks Doug again for the help
-
Hmm, clogged nozzle? Was it a used nozzle? Didnt you get a new one with the CK setup?
Good to hear you got it figured out. Is it making some good heat now?
-
its a New Nozzle from CK ... and i filter my Oil to 5 Microns.... Maybe it was a fluk and yes Finally im making heat
I order a back up Nozzle if it plugs again Im gonna just replace it I think it was in part I ran my temp Hi to first time I ran it like 230ish .. im running at 170 now
-
OK now to Im roughing in the Automation Side of it before i continue Much further to make sure I dont need to install any thing else that could Interfare with my controllers (I like to get everything Layed out before I start tighting things up) so controlling the Whole Heating and DHW Heating also controls my Cooling for each Zone (Up to 64 Zones) im using Honeywell AQ 2000 with 4 zone Expansion Controller Add on for a total of 8 Zones
(http://i44.tinypic.com/1glr10.jpg)
each room Or Zone has its own Thermastat that communicats with the controller then communicates with the Boiler or A/C
I got a good deal on this 64 bucks Brand New ... Thank you Ebay and the Seller that didnt No what it was Retails 700 Bucks with what I got
