napkin drawings
« on: October 05, 2014, 09:27:47 pm »
I have 1 gas water heater, and should acquire another one in the next few days. My goal is to heat the house. Not a shop, or garage. So putting the heater itself in the middle of the living room isnt a option. Wife shot down that pretty quick. So I figured i'd put it outside, and pipe the heat in some how.

At first I came up with this;
http://But then I realized it would freeze when not use since the water heater would be outside and full of water, but coolant/antifreeze. Also I dont know if the fire would be obtainable inside the original water heat burn chamber.

So i copied/borrowed/came up with this after kinda combining these two builds and suiting it to my needs (http://wasteoilheaterforum.com/index.php?topic=23.0)(http://wasteoilheaterforum.com/index.php?topic=296.0)

The heater tank will be outside, the hot water storage tank will be in the crawl space to keep the water from freezing.
The green thing on the water storage tank is a 2 Gallon Water Heater Safety Tank. with a 40psi pop off safety valve. The gray valve is a heater bypass valve from a 95 explorer. I'll be using a vehicle radiator and a box fan for a "water to air heat exchanger". Keeping it low budget before i know it works as good as i would like it before investing more $$$ into a finished product.

Most of my parts are still on order. Pump, power supply, temp controller, etc.

Let me know if the pics dont show up,... they should be showing up but dont look like it on my side,...

The drawings look great Mattpar!  Thanks for sharing.  Its great to see you build upon some of the other projects out here.

Thats the beauty of water, you can do the burning in a safe and more acceptable place and then pipe it where you need it.

Appreciate you taking the time to show us your project.  Let us know how it works out.  Thanks!
