Well I love the idea of a web form like this. You can go to YouTube & watch all the videos which is great. But forms
Are better as you can discuss idea’s one on one & learn from one another. Problem I see here is you can,t just pull
It up by Google. At least I could not. People can,t find it.

     Just my thoughts!   Fly

Thank you Russ looks like some great folks here. I truly wish this site was easy to find on the net, for it would
get many more hits than it does. Youtube has a huge following, on this subject. But hopefully  more people will
find it. There are many on you tube that build three or four different heaters before finding just what works for
them. I just don,t want to go threw all that if I can avoid that.

Thank you my freind!      Fly

Oh, yea the thick part is the liner, that's the part you don't want to damage.  Its like a firebrick, otherwise you would probably burn through the chamber.

For my siphon system I think I am running somewhere around 6 or 8 psi.  I used to have the shop compressor connected, but it seemed like overkill and I didn't want to keep putting hours on it, so I bought a Thomas 2660 vacuum pump.  It will work as a vacuum pump or a compressor.  It is very quiet and small.  It kicks on with the burner and runs the entire time. It's more than enough air for a siphon system.  I would never go back to using a full size compressor.

The new Harbor Freight ultra quiet compressors use the same style compressor I belive.

OK, sounds good.  Somebody else also said it's a fiber liner and I shouldn't scrape it off.

What can you tell me about the air supply that is needed?  What's the PSI and cfm?  Is it better to have a little on board compressor to supply the air?  I don't know what would work.

Thanks.

I believe that is just ash.  I get quite a bit of that when burning oil.  Its good to clean out if it is excessive, but be careful not to damage the insulation.  If it doesnt come off easily, or isnt very bad, I would just leave it until you collect more after burning oil.

Looks good!

Welcome Fly,

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with drip systems, but there are a few documented projects out here that will hopefully help you out.  It's pretty quiet around here as of late.  I don't know where everyone is, but unfortunately you might not get a whole lot of active discussion.  But feel free to look around and hopefully some of the others projects will inspire you.

Stay safe!

I have a 1800 ft shop in eastern Okla. I  have heated it with a wood stove. I plan on making a drip feed wast
Oil burner. My thought is to use a side draft flue to help retain some of the heat in the chamber a little longer
Than routing it out top of tank. My tank will most likely be a 40 gal hot water tank. I would like to keep it just
drip feed with no forced air. What Dia flue pipe would you recommend? 6” or 4 “. Which would create the best
draw? I know 6” will flow more air volume. But some times more volume will be slower velocity where less dia
such as a 4” could be less air but a higher velocity = more draw. Kinda like a soda straw. Large straw vs smaller
straw. I may be over thinking this, but many of you have been there done this. I hate to buy the flue, & have to
turn around and buy a different dia flue.

Please offer your thoughts, thank you!   Fly

I bought a used Thermaflow fuel oil furnace to convert to waste oil.  What's that white stuff in the burn chamber?  Should I scrape it out?  Thanks.
