Depends if you are talking siphon, or pressure nossel, siphon I have noticed puts alot up the stack for your temp, where pressure puts it all in the room, so what ya running?

If all else fails, grainger carries them, but pay attention to the RPM it is rated for, and double check your motor, the last guy could have been wrong.

Well I was woundering if someone had been playing with all those reducers....first try to bleed then adjust the pressure regulator on the side, if that doesen't work you can always pull the end plate, they have an internal screen on the suction side.

not unless you plan on converting to a siphon nossel, otherwise I haven't found it nessary

aww, brings back memories..looks exactly like my ABC burner before I did the nossel mod for pre heat, I can take some pictures this weekend, I had planned on checking out the nossel anyways because I haven't for a really long time, but basicly I use two 125 w cartrige heaters 60 volt wired in series @ 120 volt (250 watt total) set in a brass block, with a stainless steel (what I would call a frying pan) line enclosure with thermocouple in direct oil stream, you'll see in the pictures when I do my maintenance on it. I'll also take the pictures of the stainless preheat tank, which is a immersion heater (not scared because of low temp) $11.00 water heater element, and the controls.

I'm sorry, but I know that in the picture he had it hardly burning, thats why it "looked" clean burning, the fact of the matter is that no matter what size Draft tube you have (mine currently has a 6 1/4" id and no matter how hot the plate is or how much air you give it, it can only draft x-amount, without a outside force of air and partical atomization, clean it will never be.

no @ the nossel also, that way I can "tune" it for any oils, the standard # 2 oil pump won't last long pumping waste oil without making it a close viscosity to #2, so I run 2 heaters and 2 Pid's.  The first I usually run between 120 F-160 F, and the secondary nossel heater @ 180f-220f, it also makes the nossel heater work alot less.

Waste Oil Filtering / Re: Whole house water filter

I thought about it....but decided to go with a screw on auto filter type,  cost about $32 housing and filter, then I can always run into town and grab another filter @ any auto parts store.

I actually built mine I made a preheat tank to take load off the pump, using a 240v 1000watt hot water heater element wired @ 120v so it puts out about 250 watt, I use a PID to control it, works great and the element only cost $11

I would recommend it, buy try it as is.  Just need to make sur you don't over fire in the burn chamber, Oil has a higher BTU value than #2

Hey there Russ whats with all the reducers running into the intake port of the pump?? looks to me someone was playing, and alot of black soot around the inspection hole.....Just remember if it says .75 per hour...then on waste oil go at least .65 or below..

well guys I did build one last year, also with a dampener on the air intake, and have had good heating results- you can't stand to be closer than 4 feet away hot, glowing red.  the unfortunate part is when it is turned up look out black...I mean bad, at a low feed rate and hardly heating, it also doesn't smoke much but produces next to nothing for heat.  I have also recently melted my alum chonical, I have resorted back to my stainless one and a cast one I had built, still burns the same , just takes longer to get up and running.

Lenox is a good one jump on the deal.....but almost all the burners are almost identical.....

Waste Motor Oil / Re: Used Motor oil for heating
« on: January 04, 2009, 03:34:38 pm »
well matt the reason I say it seems really high is because on my pressure nossel heater I run a preheat before the pump @ 120 f to take load off the pump, then just before the nossel I bump it up to 180 f and the combustion and spray pattern are great, but I suspect with synthetics it would need to be alot higher.  Now the problem with Used motor oil is that there s alot of additional carbon in the oil and as far as viscosity 180 will usually bring it to the equalant of #2. But I remind everyone, that we are here to discuss , learn and find out what works the best with little to no problems, so If it works for you with no nossel probs, cool. Maybe I'll try to keep bumping the temps up too...although like most fuels it only takes atomization and ignition at the right viscosity.

well to start it all out I am using a pre heat oil tank ( 1 gal) @ about 100-120 F w/a 1000w 240v water heater element wired to 120v so it should put out 250 watt (to take the load off the pump) then I have plumed in a nossel preheater and a recirculation loop, to bring the oil up to 180 F once reached the recirc. loop closes and fires the igniter and the Flame baby flame!!!
