Plans / Siphon Burner
« on: January 09, 2011, 07:53:14 pm »
To convert a gun style system (example~beckett AFG burner) to burn waste oils first obtain a suitable burner. The key issue to conversion is preheat . The burner was designed to run on #1 or #2 oil which has a much thinner viscosity and much lower flash and combustion points than waste oils.

This can all be overcome with a preheater. There are many ways to do this, I will show the way I like the best, to use a block with a thermocouple and cartridge heater controlled by a pid.

Here is pic of a standard burner

Well here is the start on the lil gun. A conversion to a Wayne burner using a Craig Kepner (ckburner) kit.

The first mod is to extend the air tube (blast tube) to hold the preheater and a hole in it for the fuel line.

A Kagi retention head.

A spring added to top of preheater block to hold center

The PID temp control to left side

Hello all, glad to find a forum of waste oil heat builders. I have a half finished siphon gun conversion that I will soon be back to work on.

I have operated, maintained, and repaired multi-million btu liquid phase heaters (Vapower units) for over a decade so this should slide along nicely. :-\

Parts so far.

1.  Old Wayne gun style burner.
2.  4" Exhaust pipe to extend blast tube
3.  Nozzle heater block
4.  Pid controller
5.  K thermocouple
6.  Kagie retention head
7.  Float tank from old kerosene heater
8.  Combustion chamber build from 1/4" steel plate

 Cheers  D.E.
