My furnace has burned 1,670 gals so far this season, i have cleaned the nozzle and replaced o-rings 3 times.
fly ash is all i have blown out a time er two, i'm yet to filter a drop. just let the totes settle for 3 or 4 months and pump them out leaving about 20gals in the bottom. my unit burns a wide variety of differnt oil as 80% of it comes from local recycling centers. WVO, drian oil, hydraulic, synthetic and i've even seen some oil based stain get dumped into there tanks.
It took some tweaking to get it dailed in as far as nozzle size, air pressure etc but now its a set it and forget deal. in the cold months it does not shut down for days at a time.
I use a thermostat for a jet heater to control the temp once the shop and stored oil is warm.

I have used 2 CK kits now and I like them a lot, all waste oil burners need cleaning a few times a season. I mounted my burner into a door so it's 5 mins to clean up head etc.
We work on more than a few golf carts as well, we build and sell 3 or 4 EZGO 4cycle engines a month. A lot of older Harley carts, seems to be many around these parts yet.

I have used this setup for a few yrs now that's simple and cheap to build, will pump around 8 gals a minute at 40 degrees and 12 gals at 80. just a hand style oil/fuel transfer pump driven by a 3hp engine with a gear reduction, can set the valves to either pump into the tank or from or bypass the tank and use to transfer from one container to another. 250gal fuel tank laid on its side.
Made a funnel so it can dropped off at the recycling centers for those that like to self serve.

Hi nubs,
I bought a small tanker from a farmer that he used to bring his milk to the processors. Its stainless steel and holds about 80 / 100 gallons. Ideally I would like to get my hands on a proper oil bowser with a bigger capacity.

I will post some pictures later today of what i have used for the last few yrs with good results.

1500 gal is almost 6000L.
I never cease to be amazed at how much fuel some people go through.

To put it in other terms, if you conservatively say that oil has 10.5 Kw/ L, burning 6000L yields an energy output of 63000Kw.
Have you thought about closing your doors in winter??  :0)

If you were buying that in electricity at the middle of the road rate I pay, that would cost you a solid $22,000 to heat your home for..... 3-5? months?

With that sort of volume, the only readily available container I can think of which is cheap and can be used for transport or storage is an IBC.  They are 275?  gallon, 1000L for the modern world, and can be forked for easy loading and stacking.
I had 6 of them at home for my veg oil to settle and store the finished processed oil. Of course the 6 of them gave me enough fuel to run 2 vehicles for over a year and fuel to spare for travelers and friends.

How long is your winter?
I'd love to work out how much KW worth of heat you are going through a day!

We heat from October to April with many days below 25 degrees and a hand full below 0. The shop is 40 x 70 with 16 foot valuated ceilings, sky lights and 3 overhead doors.

When the oil gets hot and turns into vapor is when it can become a problem, just something to keep in mind.

This is what i have been running for about 8yrs now, last few yrs its been in a radiant forced air unit inside the shop. there should be threads here that explains how they work, i think it may be more involved than what your looking for though.

Hey, i'm new here also. i have done a dual burn outdoor water boiler in the past, starting on a new one now. its very doable but the only way i found to do it with low hassle, safe and reliable is to run a converted oil burner gun and enclose the front of the boiler to store the feed oil and burner @ around 40 degrees or more.
Any kind of drip system is to hard to control with temperature change in my opinion, I have seen 2 drip wood boilers run away and it will cook the life right out of them. If you try to control and or back down the burn rate with the damper if it does get away the unburnt  gases becomes pretty flammable and if you don't choke it off 100% and let it cool down it can reignite and blow the door right out of your hand if it does .

I mounted the gun in a door, easy for cleaning nozzles, inspections etc.
