Yes it is a pressure system, pump at 105 lbs, oil thinned to 80/20 or 70/30. At the moment no heat to the oil but that will change as I have scrounged some parts. What are you guys doing to vent your storage tanks? I have to deal with this because of the hydrocarbon thinner I am using. Thought of running a pipe to the attic of the garage but maybe there is a better way? I have to pull the burner soon and clean it as it is getting harder to light in the cold. I have so much on the go and so little time and money but we do what we can eh!

Well it has been a tough weekend, may things went wrong. I burnt about 4 galls of wvo and since the on tank is poly I cannot use a heater nor can I stir it so what I have don is use an air pump and stone and hopefully it will keep the mix holding together. I cannot afford a CK kit as I am on a disability so I do what I can. Been thinking about using a propane start for the first burn of the day, putting a nozzle in th air tub. I an an RV Propan tech so I hav a fw parts laying around. Look forward to hearing what others are doing or experiencing,, Larry  -22c HERE TONIGHT.

Waste Vegetable Oil / Pre heat used canola/motor oil/hydrocarbon thinners
« on: January 03, 2019, 06:04:39 pm »
I will be using a 5 gallon hydraulic resv box as my supply source, heated with silcone pads 300 watts total and a 1500 watt water heater element dialed back to likely 300. I will be pulling oil with a single pipe system thru the water heater element fitting. Now do any of you guys stir your prime tanks to get the heat distributed better or just let em heat? Thanks for your thoughts. My mix will be primarily used veg oil, splash of diesel and another hydrocarbon. Gets to minus 20 C without starting the shop furnace.

My pressure burner is a stock home heating burner, Brock, and I turned up the pump presuure to about 150 psi, changed my nozzel to .7 so the flame is a bit shorter and not all over the firebox.  I mix my fuel at 25% rug and 75% wvo or WMO.  I add 20 ml of acetone. This I hope helps with deposits.  That is all, so no cost to modify.

My oil is at whatever room temp is, sometimes below 0 F and I get reliable starts.  Simple, anyone can do it and operate it.

Welcome!
I am not familar with the plans you speak of but I thought it was a siphon based system, using air pressure to siphon.

I myself am using a pressure system . I get good clean burn on wvo or wmo at 75% wvo or mo, rug and 20ml of acetone.

For the house I have a forced air oil with wood. I am making some sawdust logs with wmo to get thru the winter with a dwindling wood supply.

I wanted a relatively simple system for the shop, flick a switch and instant start.  Makes it easy for the neighbor who does not have to fuss with anything.

For the house I will add to my oil tank every now and then but wont modify it.

Please browse around and let us know if you find the plans.

Waste Oil Filtering / Re: wmo centrifuge project

Nice setup but... what if it is cold, snow etc?  I am too old to be trying to work outside like that in the snow!  I spend enuff time off season doing removals and plowing rather work inside LOL

My little tank takes care of pails bigger than 20L that are too hard too lift or play with.

Most of my wvo has been used canola oil from Dairy Queen, wonderful stuff but Sanimax got upset so I lost that line. Tried to hit up some fry trucks but have lost that too.  My wmo I can easilly score 100 galls or more a year.

I am happy with my pressure furnace in the shop, works reliabily, burn the dregs in sawdust logs. Am using mostly wvo in the shop this year with every 5 galls or so wmo.

User Projects & Pictures / Crude idea of my setup
« on: January 25, 2014, 07:44:46 pm »
This is my crude attempt at showing what I am doing, hope it makes some sense.  I have other things as well but this is the main devices. Have not shown valves etc but u can get the drift/

Oil is circulated for multiple passes and heated then dumped to the 100 gall tank.  I will try some small scall automated mixing later but for now will stick with the grad pitcher method and my day tank.  I will try 20 ML of acetone per gallon of blend, which is 25% rug with mo or vo as the remaining.

Not that big, maybe 25-30 galls, old water pressure tank.  I didn't need a big one and space is always a prob so I made it small. Manifold for suction or pressure.  Vac pump is from an old dairy farm setup,  I can make about 27 inches of vac in several minutes.  Again space an issue, it is right now in the wrong place in the shop and I cannot get to either easy, but I will fix that later.  Will try to get some pics next week, but it is fairly simple.  I retrieve any wvo in cubies, but all my sources have paying arrangements with others, wmo is brought to me in small jugs or 20L pails. I made only one road trip for wmo and never ever again like that......

I am going to try starting next week to redo some things and finally do some things so I hope for progress.  I think we have a bit of a respite on the cold but will still be min 25C at nights.

Going to pick up some E85 later. We have only 1 pump in the city.  I will try some blending experiments.  I wonder if acetone will help in HHO to lessen the coking around the nozzel?

Glad you are able to post in, thought I was alone in here,  8)

Waste Motor Oil / cold ending soon?
« on: January 22, 2014, 04:40:13 pm »
 :o

Tried a little experiment this am, -33C outside, 40F in the shop.  2 gall of waste motor oil in a day tank, 1/2' pipe and valve (ball), open valve and no oil flows out.... too damm cold.

I am not getting anything done this week other than dirty my clothes, oil the floor and burn wood.  Am going to try and plumb the tanks together likely next month . I will take my ute out of the shop and park outside and set up some tables and get to work.

Still need a couple of transfer pumps, low pressure and flow I suppose 1-4 gpm, but I will look at a couple of hydraulic gear pumps and see if that works.  Standard oil burner pump will not do the job.

Ultimately I want clean centrifuge unblended oil into the 100 gall fiberglass fuel tank.  I will pump from there later to a day tank and blend there.  Have toyed with the idea of using a pressure washer soap injector to blend oil and rug that way,.... have to see. I use a 1 gallon graduated pitcher and blend that days blend and add to my day tank.

None of the locals share my interest in this subject so I am on my own .  Post what you guys are doing or not, what works  etc.   Wish I had a diesel to play with, but I sold my 12V back a ways and my 7.3 is also long gone so oil heat is my thing.

-25C currently, animals locked up, wood fire on and wait for Ice Pilots tonight,!  I am lucky enough to have flown in a DC 3 and an Electra when I was a air cadet and for work, so I enjoy the series and Ice road truckers as well.

Stay warm

I also have a vacuum pump and a sucker I made but use rarely, too much hassle to get it moved etc.

So guys, explain your layouts and what you are doing, I like others ideas and concepts, makes the creative juices flow,  -30C right now,  woodpile is shrinking

Just looking for options, though I have too many....

Have 3 100 gal tanks steel, 2 100 gal tanks steel full wmo, 4 45 gall olive barrels full wvo, 60L centrifuge tank, 50L SS tank, 50 Gal poly tank,  250 gallon tote, 35 gal hho water heater.  So I need a couple of pumps that can transfer, not make a mess and be reliable.

I will think about gravity when I can but ceiling is only 9', finished, . I have a shop oil furnace as well.

!@#$@!@**%$, stand on one leg, let the planets align, have 3000 hp and voila we can move some oil..... After weeks of trying I finally managed to get my fuge running in a quick test.  I need 3/4 cap start motor, old JD combine scavenge pump turning backwards, 1" inlet hose and I can make the unit spin. I did pop an O ring but its been such a nightmare.  I hooked up the Parker gerotor to a 3/4 hp motor this am and not a hope to roll it over. Unit is not a cap start so not enough torque to turn it over so I abandoned that and kluged some other parts together.  I have had so many failures that I was thinking of packing it in this winter....  Current temp -17C but going to -25C -30 c tonight.  Made some sawdust logs with my shop floor mess to help with the cold temps.  The Alpacas are locked in the barn for the night.

Anyone using a air driven Pneumatic pump?

If so what do you think of it? Reliable?  So now I will try to bring all the components online and process some oil as a test.  I have such a mess in the shop. No matter what you do everytime you take something apart it oozes everywhere ending up on the floor....

In Canada we have Princess Auto, your US equivalent of Harbour Freight. so I spend a lot of time there looking for ideas, inspiration and parts!  http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Manual-Barrel--Hand-Pump/Pneumatic-Fluid-Pump/8326555.p

So after a long day, just wanted to let you all know I moved some oil and it was not on the floor!

Stay warm and post guys, lets get some creative ideas going.

 ::)

I am using sawdust which is mdf/particleboard for a floor dry and it works pretty good and I can sweep it up and burn it too boot!

I am Trying to do it now as I work all thru the summer (rv tech) so now is when I have free time.

The zero start tank heater has been a suprise it worked so well. I am only heating small test batch as the main batch will be heated with the oil fired water heater later.  I would like to prepare at least 150 galls before winter is over for long term storage.

I noticed on another site that the guy was using a 1.98 ci hydro pump,  that is huge compared to what I have, but I know some guys use a harbour freight water pump with some success, my local princess auto really has nothing like that.   I need 100 psi at 1 gpm minimum and be consistent.

Anyway looks like the weather is turning cold again. I will make some more sawdust logs using the sawdust and bottoms of wmo jugs and pack large cardboard tubes. Lasts several hours, good heat, no smoke.  I pack them good then leave a hole down the center to get a good burn.

I am thinking of relocating to an old trailer I have so as not to mess up the shop, will look at that this summer.

My mix at this time for the shop is 25% rug to wmo or wvo (nice canola oil). Pump on the Beckett is about 150 psi with a .75 nozzel.  Flame fills the pot and I have a small piece of steel in the pot to absorb heat tand help with combustion.  Using just a standard general felt filter.  WVO is filtered once thru a fabric shopping bag filter after settling.  My wmo is filtered once thru a maple syrup sock bag filter.  No plugging of nozzel in 2.5 years.

Take care all and post!

Waste Motor Oil / anybody out there?
« on: January 19, 2014, 03:39:10 pm »
 :)

I have not had time to do much, just discovered my Generac is leaking rug in the shop, an other thing now to worry about.
I am going to try the .58 ci  parker  ::)pump when I can to see if I can move oil without having to move the earth and get my fuge running.   I know some like aggressive gear pumps but I cannot afford anything right now so I will try what I have here to work with.

I have lots of wmo access but a lot of it is 20/50 so its thick as  well better than 50w .

I will sign off, hopefully other oil burners will post and give us some of their experiences.

I am curious about what others might be using for a centrifuge pump.  I have an OC  50.  My old pump is too large, it cavitates and when I slow it down cannot get enough pressure and flow, the small pump cavitates and wont make enough flow.  I am in the testing phase only and my oil is around 100F.  No money because of layoff so my options are very limited.  I know some use a sbc pump, but I have no access  I have this              http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Motors/058-cu-in-4-Bolt-Hydraulic-Gerotor-Motor/1220383.p

I have this   motor that i assume I can make into a pump.

I have one of these pumps   http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Pumps/32-GPM-Hydraulic-Gear-Pump/8375354.p
but it has not performed, it cavitates at 3500 rpm and does not get pressure high enuff at 1750.  Anyway, what are you guys using?
